Mary Ellen McElligott, Administrative Assistant to Superintendent, Marquardt School District No. 15, IL has been chosen as the 2010 recipient of the "Holly Jack Outstanding Service Award"! The award is presented by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) to recognize exemplary service by district employees who do the work of the School Board Secretary. The award was created in 2009 to honor the memory of Holly Jack, a long-time employee of the Association who served as an IASB field services administrative assistant and was instrumental in promoting and developing the secretaries' program that is offered at the Association's Joint Annual Conference.
School board presidents and superintendents were asked to nominate their local district employee (superintendent's secretary, superintendent's administrative assistant, school board recording secretary, etc.) who does the work required of the school board secretary by The School Code of Illinois. To be eligible for the award an individual has to be a district employee and have been employed in that position, either by their school district or another, for a minimum of 5 years.
There were a total of twenty-two nominees from all parts of the Illinois, and from all sizes and types of school districts. The Selection Committee did not have an easy task in narrowing the field to ultimately choose Mary Ellen; however, one of the things that set her apart from the other candidates in the eyes of the committee was the support she received from other staff members and community members, as well as from her superintendent, former superintendent and board.
The award will be presented to Mary Ellen at the IASB/IASA/Illinois ASBO Annual Conference in Chicago on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010. BoardDocs would like to congratulate Mary Ellen ~ a long-time member of our family, as well!
