SILVER CREEK - Trees and money will be saved in Silver Creek, as the school board goes forward with plans to go paperless.
"Where are the iPads?," School Board Vice President Martha Howard joked at the beginning of the meeting.
But it is no laughing matter. The board has recently taken strides to make its meeting agendas paperless - saving money and improving the way it does business at the same time.
Wednesday's meeting began with a demonstration of the new software the board will utilize called BoardDocs. District Clerk Lynn O'Connor and Secretary to the Superintendent Linda Borrello showed how anyone can log onto the school's website and get to BoardDocs through a link under shortcuts on the home page. With a few clicks anyone can find meeting times, agendas, resolutions and attached documentation. Kurzawa was able to show the attendance reports for the elementary and high school by opening an attachment on the resolution to accept the report.
"This is very user-friendly software. If I can do it, anyone can do it," Borrello said.
Borrello said the agendas for upcoming meetings will be posted by 5 p.m. the Friday before a regular board meeting, held the second and fourth Wednesdays. Some paper copies of the agendas will still be available at the beginning of the meeting, however Interim Superintendent David Kurzawa said it will now be standard procedure to have an overhead projection of the detailed agenda as the board proceeds with the meeting.
To access BoardDocs go to www.silvercreekschools.org and click the "BoardDocs" link at the left under shortcuts, click to access the public site and click on a meeting date to access the link to view or print an agenda.
