Building Better Community Transparency - Chardon Local Schools, OH

Chardon Local Schools gains greater community transparency and trust with leading board management solution!

BoardDocs Times Two

Superintendent Dr. Michael Hanlon, Jr., knows all too well the powerful benefits of a board management solution. Afterall, he’s implemented OSBA BoardDocs in two different Ohio school districts. As the previous superintendent for Painesville City Schools, Dr. Hanlon implemented OSBA BoardDocs LT and has done so again at Chardon Local Schools.

The district has utilized OSBA BoardDocs LT since 2014. With the board management solution’s turnkey features, the district stopped producing 40 copies of board meeting binders and eliminated their former time-consuming processes.

Greater Transparency Yields Greater Trust

Now, Chardon Local’s BoardDocs LT site is accessible from the district’s website, ensuring the community is well-informed. Board meeting agendas are released the Friday before the scheduled meeting, so stakeholders and the community are knowledgeable and empowered before the event takes place.

“The Board of Education wanted to increase transparency for constituents. It’s hard to put a value on public perception and trust, and BoardDocs definitely contributes to greater organizational transparency,” said Dr. Hanlon.

Powerful Features Increase Productivity

Detailed agendas allow all motions, votes, attachments and presentations made during the meeting to be easily viewed. The Board Secretary can easily share this information post-meeting should it be requested.

Previously, the Chardon Local maintained 40 copies of a district policy handbook. Now with BoardDocs, only one hard copy is maintained and all policies are hosted online for greater transparency and accuracy. The community can access the policy bank at anytime, from anywhere.

Board Member Perspective

All five of the district’s board members use Chromebooks to perform board business. They are also highly satisfied with the ability to view and use OSBA BoardDocs LT on personal devices.

Board members even have access to the agenda as it’s being developed. Dr. Hanlon explains the district is more efficient in preparing for meetings, thus being able to eliminate the agenda preparation meetings they used to hold with the board president.

They also love the comprehensive search functionality that BoardDocs LT provides. “Board members no longer have to be onsite to review contracts or search for important documents. Everything can be found in BoardDocs. Because of BoardDocs we work smarter, not harder,” stated Dr. Hanlon.
