Aristides Ioannides, CEO and Chief Architect
Ari Ioannides has more than 30 years experience solving complex computer problems. An alumnus of Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology, Mr. Ioannides supplemented his formal education by receiving technical certifications from Apple, IBM, Sun, Novell, Microsoft, HP and Cisco. He accepted his first IT position at Sears in 1978 as the Company’s youngest mainframe computer operator.
In 1988, Mr. Ioannides founded what is now Emerald Data Solutions™, Inc., where he helped leading companies like BellSouth and Turner Broadcasting deploy and operate critical, enterprise-level computer systems. Prior to the widespread use of the Internet, Mr. Ioannides designed and implemented a portable international remote office solution for BellSouth that provided the ability to quickly setup ad-hoc remote locations throughout the world. The resulting solution could be carried into a remote office plugged into any global network and provide workgroup communications back to the home office in Atlanta.
Mr. Ioannides pioneered the hardware and software designs for the first “on demand” digital music-playing system used in professional sports, ultimately used by the Atlanta Braves, Falcons and Hawks, and during qualifying events at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He has also designed and implemented a wide range of Internet solutions. For example, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), the organization behind the Grammy Awards, used his services to design and implement a Web site where members could purchase CDs online.
Mr. Ioannides designed, installed and supported enterprise solutions for some of the nation’s largest manufacturing companies, including Steelcase and Hubbell. The resulting platforms supported network services such as presence awareness, VOIP telephony, enterprise resource planning and manufacturing resource planning. He integrated these services to allow central offices to get information and control processes on an enterprise level.
His team also designed and implemented Georgia’s first online, student performance reporting system. This system allowed educators and stakeholders to query the raw results of performance reports collected by the state by socioeconomic group, district, school and grade level. The system then graphically presented the results as a formal report via the Web.
In 2000, Mr. Ioannides developed Emerald Data Solution’s first board management technology for Marietta City Schools in Georgia, and formally launched BoardDocs® nationally in 2002. In 2005, he divested the consulting and integration division of Emerald Data Solutions to focus 100% of the Company’s resources on developing, implementing and supporting online governance solutions. As the Chief Software Architect of BoardDocs, Mr. Ioannides has been able to enhance the governance process of more than 2,000 local governing bodies by leveraging the power of the Internet to publish and distribute information.
Mr. Ioannides has been a guest speaker at the International City/County Management Association, the National School Boards Association and the American Association of School Administrators. He has also authored numerous articles and white papers and has been published in leading industry journals, including Network Computing.
